The Mighty Girls United program is for the amazing girl in your life between the ages of 8-12. Fascinating women and girl’s stories and accomplishments are used as springboards to propel participants into experiences they might not otherwise have with the goal of expanding their exposure to a wide range of topics while bolstering their self-confidence, encouraging great dreams, and empowering them in a safe and comfortable atmosphere.
We explore the experiences of females who have lived notable lives and take strength from their accomplishments. After hearing their stories, we try their skills on for size. These women and girls become springboards to activities and experiences our girls might not normally have. Through science experiments, topic expansion investigations, creative building projects, and story manipulation activities our girls learn that there is nothing holding them back from doing anything they want.
For example, we might go to “spy school” and send invisible ink messages, make our own cipher machines, and pass supplies in secret compartments after hearing about female spies from the American Revolution and Julia Child’s who spied during WWII! Or we might learn about Pocahontas and weave baskets learn and play Native American games, learn their sign language and how to write their pictographs. Or learn about girls and women inventors and try our hand at making our own invention.
Join us anytime! We meet every third Tuesday of the month from 5:00-6:30. The club runs from September to June. We meet at Quarterpath Recreation Center, 202 Quarterpath Road, Williamsburg.
2023-2024 meeting dates are: September 19, October 17, November 14 * (one week early due to Thanksgiving week) December 19, January 16, February 20, March19, April 16, May 21 and June 18.
